Dublin, 17 February 2015
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White T.D., has today approved an extension to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s Funding Scheme for the Archiving of Programme Material.
In announcing his decision, the Minister said, “The scheme has been designed to encourage and support the development of an archiving culture to preserve the very rich history and culture of Irish broadcasting and I am confident that, by extending the scheme, we can build on the success it has already achieved.”
The Funding Scheme for the Archiving of Programme Material was approved previously until the 31 December 2014. The next round of funding will be available this year, and will be announced by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) shortly. The main objective of the scheme is the development of archiving of programme material produced in the State, and will see €4 million allocated to the programme over the next two years.
Minister White has written to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland formally approving the extension to the scheme. The extension will allow the BAI to gather sufficient information and experience on the operation of the scheme and to conduct a review towards the end of 2015. ENDSNote to Editors
