The Minerals Development Bill was published in July 2015. The Bill consolidates and modernises legislation on exploration and extraction of minerals, and seeks to replace a number of pieces of legislation from 1940 to 1999. The Bill provides a modern regulatory regime for exploration and mining.
The purpose of the Bill is to make better provision for the prospecting for, and development, management and control of, the mineral resources of the State. The Bill has now completed all stages in the Seanad. You can follow the Bill's progress through the

An Explanatory and Financial Memorandum was published with the Bill and a Regulatory Impact Assessment for the Bill was also carried out.
