This national policy statement sets out the official overall perspective on electricity interconnection in Ireland.
It follows a public consultation held over the early months of 2018 on a draft policy statement on electricity interconnection. The responses to this consultation are available here. Government considers that structured, transparent public engagement and information sharing is an important part of policy development. In the case of electricity interconnection, it is important to clearly explain the policy drivers underlying the decision-making process for proposed interconnection projects.
This policy statement on electricity interconnection is designed to provide high-level policy guidance to all stakeholders, and, in particular, to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) as it considers applications from project promoters.
