As part of the National Broadband Plan, operators will be asked to bid in a procurement process to select a provider for the rollout of high speed broadband in the areas where commercial services will not be provided.
By re-using existing telecoms infrastructure such as poles, ducts, sites and masts, the cost of the intervention to the State will be minimised, as it will avoid unnecessary new build. To assist with this, the Department has set up a Register of Infrastructure Owners to support the rollout of high speed broadband under the NBP. Meetings have taken place with a number of State Agencies with relevant infrastructure in order to explain the rationale for setting up this register.
Currently, the Register of Infrastructure Owners contains entries from a range of private and public bodies. The Register remains open to new entrants and is updated as and when infrastructure owners send information to the Department.
Operators which have an interest in using infrastructure on the register can contact the infrastructure owners directly to get more details and to discuss terms and conditions. For any other queries in relation to the register, contact the Department directly by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
