Since the start of the intervention project in 2013 we have undertaken a comprehensive analysis and mapping process of high speed broadband availability across the entire country. An interactive map has been developed which identifies locations and premises as being either served by the commercial sector by end of 2020 or requiring State intervention under the NBP programme. This map was first issued in November 2014. In March 2015 we issued a request for supplementary information to operators on their Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband plans up to the end of 2020. This information helps us to understand where broadband services are provided currently and into the future. This allows us to understand the areas that are likely to require intervention by the State. The map was re-issued in December 2015 with the most up to date view, at that time, of various operator plans.
In October 2015 we published the Criteria for the assessment of investment plans and issued a consultation paper on how the map will be managed before, during and after procurement. We received 15 responses to this consultation. Following analysis of these responses we published a paper explaining how we will manage the high speed broadband map pre, during and post procurement.
The Department have now published (April 2017) an updated High Speed Broadband Map, taking into account both commercial operator plans which have failed to materialize and new developments since the last Map was published. The net result of this assessment is that there are now c540,000 premises in the updated Amber area.
Every effort has been made to ensure the Map is as accurate as possible, however some errors may remain. If you have queries in relation to your premises, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org quoting your eircode. If you have contacted telecoms operators and cannot get services, it would be helpful if you could advise the Department which operators you have contacted.
We have also developed coverage maps on a county basis including information on the townlands in each county. We have identified over 50,000 townlands and 2.3 million premises. Click on the relevant province to find your county. Here you will find your county coverage map and townland statistics.
