National Broadband Plan - SEA Scoping Report

a bay in donegal

The National Broadband Plan (NBP) aims to deliver reliable high speed broadband throughout Ireland through a combination of state and commercial investment. as part of the NBP we are designing a state intervention aimed at connecting all our communities. This is because commercial operators have made it clear that there are large parts of the country that they cannot make high speed broadband services available commercially.

In accordance with national and European legislation, the department screened the draft intervention strategy for the requirement to conduct a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), and subsequently determined that a full SEA would be required. Further information on this screening process is available on the NBP Environmental Assessments Page.

The following stage in the SEA process is consultation with certain statutory bodies on the SEA scoping report. In addition to the statutory consultation, wider non-statutory public consultation to encourage further participation by stakeholders and the public was also undertaken in parallel. The public consultation closed at 5pm on Friday May 20th 2016, and six reponses were received.
