Minister White appoints new Chairperson at ComReg

Christchurch, New Zealand, 16 March 2015

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White, T.D., has appointed Mr. Jeremy Godfrey as Chairperson of the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).

Minister White said “I am pleased to formally announce Jeremy’s appointment as Chairperson. ComReg plays a critical role in regulating the telecommunications and postal sectors and has a key role in creating the environment to optimise continued commercial investment in the sectors. It is also playing a critical role in assisting in the development of the Government’s plans to address the next generation broadband deficit in rural Ireland through the National Broadband Plan.”

The Minister added “Jeremy’s experience as ComReg Commissioner since 2013 and previously his role as Government Chief Information Officer in Hong Kong will equip him to succeed in this exciting and challenging role”.

Minister White also thanked the outgoing Chairperson, Mr. Kevin O’Brien, for his work. Mr. O’Brien is remaining on as one of the 3 Commissioners within ComReg.

Jeremy Godfrey has over thirty years’ experience in telecommunications, IT and public policy. He was the Government Chief Information Officer in Hong Kong from 2008 to 2011. He has been a partner in PA Consulting Group, has held senior roles in Hong Kong Telecom and the Cable & Wireless Group, and has worked for the UK Department of Trade and Industry and as an independent consultant. He was appointed a Commissioner in ComReg in August 2013.
