At the Annual Conference of the Freedom Online Coalition
in Tallinn this morning, Fergus O'Dowd T.D., Minister of State at the Department
of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources today called for the
preservation of a free, open and unitary internet. Addressing a Ministerial
Meeting, he noted that freedom online was critical for future economic and
social development, and that the Irish Government continuously reflects on the
best possible governance arrangements to protect freedom of expression
online.
The FoC was formed three years ago with The Hague Declaration,
and now has 50 member states, all committed to working to preserve
freedom.
