Dublin, 1 September 2015
Minister for communications, Alex White, today announced the extension of the public consultation on Ireland's Broadband Intervention Strategy until 25 September 2015. The strategy sets out how the government proposes to intervene to deliver quality high-speed broadband access in areas where it is uneconomic for the commercial sector to invest.
The minister said that the extension had been granted at the request of a number of key stakeholders and will help ensure that industry and other stakeholders have the opportunity to submit their views before the programme moves to the procurement phase later this year. The minister confirmed that this will not have an impact on the overall project timelines and that he expects to move to formal procurement of the state-provided element of high speed broadband infrastructure before the end of 2015.
