Dublin, 9 September 2015
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White TD, today laid the TG4 Annual Report & Accounts for 2014 before the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Welcoming the publication, Minister White commended TG4's performance in light of significant challenges facing all broadcasters in recent years.
TG4 has increased the share of public funding it spends directly on Irish language programming to almost 76% and the Minister noted that 'Since its inception, TG4 has been renowned for its innovative and quality broadcasting. As a publisher-broadcaster, it provides significant support to the Independent Production sector, spending over €20m working with the Industry to commission high-quality programming as Gaeilge."
TG4 has been a showcase project in the promotion & development of the Irish language and culture as it delivers a worldwide Irish language content service that has a positive influence, engages with younger audiences and in this way also supports the Government's 20 Year Strategy for the Irish language (2010 – 2030).
In 2014, TG4 continued to provide strong Irish language content across a variety of platforms, with children's programming and the development of Irish language Apps helping it deliver on its core public service remit.
