Appointment to the Board of Inland Fisheries Ireland

 

Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Sean Canney T.D., has recently appointed Ms. Fiona Walsh to the Board of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) in accordance with Section 12 of the Inland Fisheries Act 2010.

 

IFI is the state agency responsible for the protection, management and conservation of Ireland's inland fisheries and sea angling resources.  It was formed on 1 July 2010 following the amalgamation of the Central Fisheries Board and the seven Regional Fisheries Boards into a single agency.  Ireland has over 74,000 kilometres of rivers and streams and 128,000 hectares of lakes all of which fall under the jurisdiction of IFI.

 

In welcoming this appointment Minister of State Canney said "Ms. Walsh brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Board of IFI, particularly in the area of corporate governance.  I wish her well in her role as a board member".

 

This appointment was made pursuant to Section 12 of the Inland Fisheries Act 2010 and in accordance with the Guidelines on Appointments to State Boards.

Fiona Walsh

Ms. Walsh is a senior executive with 20+ years' experience in the Management Consulting, Technology and Venture Capital sectors.  With recent and relevant knowledge and experience in fisheries regulation and Corporate Governance and with particular expertise in the areas of risk management, governance and compliance practices, strategic management and organizational change.  She is currently working in venture capital and serving on the Boards and Audit and Risk committees of four organizations including chairing one Audit and Risk committee.  She has a Higher Diploma in Corporate Governance and MBA from global leader INSEAD.  She is currently a Director  & Member of the Audit & Risk committee of the Loughs Agency – the North/South Body responsible for the protection, management, and promotion of Lough Carlingford and Lough Foyle and their extensive river systems.
