National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents

The National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents (NEPNA) co-ordinates the emergency response to a situation where there is radioactive contamination in Ireland, whether the incident happens in Ireland, the UK or another country. While this Deaprtment (Communications, Climate Action & Environment) has overall lead responsibility for the Plan, important support roles are also provided by other Departments and Agencies such as the following:

  • Environmental Protection Agency 
  • Department of the Taoiseach
  • Department of Defence 
  • Department of Health
  • Health Service Executive
  • Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine
  • Food Safety Authority of Ireland
  • An Garda Siochana
  • Irish Coast Guard
