There are currently almost 900 publically accessible charge points installed across the Republic of Ireland, around 80 of which are fast chargers. For a country of our size, we have one of the more comprehensive charge point networks currently in place across Europe.
In order to guide developers in selecting fast charger locations, and to inform evaluations of applications of support, the Department has also issued the following information note which presents a brief needs analysis, based on existing traffic volumes.
Additional funding in Budget 2018 will support the provision of public charging, the details of which are being examined by the Low Emissions Vehicle Taskforce. Also, from 2018, a new grant will be available to support the installation of home charger points for buyers of new and second-hand EVs.
