Study being undertaken into Irish Natural Gas Network - Information Note

The Minister's view on the natural gas network is that it should be developed generally in rural Ireland to provide natural gas to as many areas as possible. He considers that further extension of the gas network could have important benefits. In line with the Energy White Paper, published in December 2015, the Minister has commissioned a high-level study into the Irish National Gas Network.

This study will address issues relating to the wider economic costs and benefits of potential extensions to the Irish natural gas network, including decarbonisation, air quality, climate and emissions and regional and rural development benefits. This study is being undertaken for the purpose of technical evaluation, analysis and information-gathering, which will inform and feed into future policy development.

The Information Note below provides interested parties with details about the study and an upcoming Information Seminar which will be held on Monday 15th January 2018.
