Meath-Tyrone (North South) Report – Review by the International Expert Commission

In July 2011 the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources appointed an International Expert Commission to:

  • Examine the case for, and cost of, undergrounding all or part of the North-South 400 kV Interconnection project;
  • Review expert literature already available both in Ireland and internationally in relation to undergrounding high voltage power lines;
  • Consider the route or routes proposed by EirGrid;
  • and Consult with EirGrid, the North East Pylon Pressure Committee and the County Monaghan Anti-Pylon Committee, and other bodies / organisations.

The final report was published in January 2012.​
