Eircode 2017 National Awareness Survey

Eircode Research 2017

A face to face independent research study was conducted by Amárach Research in December 2017, to identify if householders were aware of the Eircode for their property.  This was a national awareness survey and 1,244 participants across Ireland took part.  84% provided the correct Eircode for their property. 


Below are some key statistics from the the Eircode Awareness survey:

84% of those surveyed provided their Eircode.

99% of people know how to get their Eircode.

15% of people know their Eircode off by heart, 38% have the original letter/card issued in 2015 and 47% have it jotted down in a notebook or saved on their phone or computer.

78% of those surveyed had unique addresses and 22% had non unique addresses.

What is my Eircode ?

If you have a computer you can find your Eircode on the Eircode  or you can email  If you do not have a computer you can ring 0818 300 005  (within Ireland) or +353 1 901 2232 (outside Ireland).   You can write to Capita at Unit B, West Cork Business and Technology Park, Clonakilty, Co Cork P85YH98.

Capita Business Support Services Ireland, trading as Eircode, develop, implement, maintain and promote the National Postcode System "Eircode" on behalf of the Minister.   


What is the Eircode Finder ?

The Eircode Finder, is a free online tool that the public and businesses can use to find Eircodes for addresses.  On average, the Eircode Finder was visited 28,000 per day in 2017.  If people don't know or have their Eircode the online Eircode Finder is a handy way to get your Eircode.


Below are some key statistics on the Eircode Finder in December 2017:

Over 1 million Eircode searches were conducted in December 2017.

52% of Eircode searches were in Dublin, 4% in Cork and 2% in Limerick.

42% of Eircode searches come from mobile phones.

2% of Eircode searches were prompted by Ikea and 1% by Dominos.
