Eircode is Ireland's National Postcode System. Capita Business Support Services Ireland, trading as Eircode, was awarded a 10 year contract in December 2013. The contract is to develop, implement, maintain and promote the use of the National Postcode System
Over 35% of addresses in Ireland share their address with at least one other property. This makes it difficult for those delivering goods and services to accurately identify the location of an address. Eircode has been designed specifically to overcome this problem. Unlike other countries where postcodes define a cluster or group of addresses, a unique Eircode is assigned to each residential and business address.
No two properties have the same Eircode. You do not need to change your address, simply add the Eircode to the last line of the address that you usually use. A typical Eircode might read A65 F4E2

|The first three characters of each Eircode, called the "Routing Key" are designed to benefit the postal and logistics industry. The Routing Key will be used to help sort mail, however, it is not directly linked to counties, towns or geographic features.||The second part of the Eircode called the "Unique identifier" is comprised of four characters drawn from a carefully selected set of letters and numbers that identify each individual address.|
The Eircode Finder can be used to find your Eircode. There is a limit of 15 searches per day and there is no cost to the public for using the Eircode Finder.
