The Regional Gathering held in Athlone on the 23 June, was the first in a series of regional and local meetings hosted as part of the National Dialogue on Climate Action.
This Government initiative, led by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency, aims are to build awareness, engagement and motivation to act in relation to the challenges presented by climate change.
The design of this first Regional Gathering reflected these aims and explored with participants how best to shape the Dialogue process in future.
This was a free event in which we were keen to involve a wide range of groups and individuals from across Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, Monaghan, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Longford and Offaly. On the day we held a workshop aimed at engaging people in:
- Inspiring a shared purpose: Through better understanding of the big issues and identifying some key principles on what a better future could look like.
- Exchanging ideas: Harnessing what exists and connecting the dots to unlock opportunities for action that individuals, public, private and community sectors can collaborate upon.
- Shaping the process: For future regional and local events under the National Dialogue on Climate Action, exploring how to engage and mobilise people in the process.
