Ciarán Ó hÓbáin is the Assistant Secretary leading the Communications function in the Department. He has responsibility for telecommunications market interventions, including the National Broadband Plan, EU and national telecommunications and internet policy, cyber security, the National Digital Strategy and the Emergency Call Answering Service.
Ciarán’s most recent previous roles were leading in policy\regulatory development and implementation for Ireland’s oil and gas exploration and production sector, along with Ireland’s broadcasting sector.
Prior to working in this Department, Ciarán worked in the Departments of the Gaeltacht and Education, while also working for a period on secondment to the Oireachtas.
